Hybrid Synthesis
This project explores seascape ecologies by focusing on the complex relationships between human-made pollution, natural materials, and the living organisms of the coast. My research speculates on how plastic is becoming a fundamental building block within the coastal landscape, demonstrating its capacity to coalesce with biological and material resources over time.
Although marine plastic pollution is undeniably a critical global challenge, my work intentionally shifts away from simply criticizing the problem. Instead, I accept the prevailing circumstances to investigate how plastic can be researched, understood, and fully integrated into our perception of the coastal condition.
Stemming from the observation that our conventional image of the seaside is often unrealistic and nostalgic, this ongoing endeavor is deeply curious about the new aesthetics that will emerge. Through artistic practice, I aim to update our collective understanding by representing this evolving environmental reality.
The project itself began in 2018 under the "Memory of the Sea" initiative.
