This project deliberately takes the craft in a new direction, stepping away from the familiar coastal associations—sandcastles and seascapes—explored in the original Knitting Sand Lamps. By integrating white glass sand into the mixture, the material achieves a semi-translucency that allows light to softly filter through the surface. This creates a captivating layered light effect, enabling the pieces to interact with illumination in complex and intriguing ways. The unique "knitting" technique is reminiscent of 3D printing yet remains entirely freehand and manual. This method allows for the creation of organic, uncommon forms and patterns. focusing on the complex relationships between human-made pollution, natural materials, and the living organisms of the coast. My research speculates on how plastic is becoming a fundamental building block within the coastal landscape, demonstrating its capacity to coalesce with biological and material resources over time. Although marine plastic pollution is undeniably a critical global challenge, my work intentionally shifts away from simply criticizing the problem. Instead, I accept the prevailing circumstances to investigate how plastic can be researched, understood, and fully integrated into our perception of the coastal condition. Stemming from the observation that our conventional image of the seaside is often unrealistic and nostalgic, this ongoing endeavor is deeply curious about the new aesthetics that will emerge. Through artistic practice, I aim to update our collective understanding by representing this evolving environmental reality. the objects.&nbsp; I have developed candle holders which in minimalistic form are bringing trees to the table, with delicate light breaking through the thin walls of the vessels, showing the imperfect structure which reflects the way it was being made.When you are hiking in the forest you can get lost not only on the map. You can give oneself to the experience, when all the stimuli are so different from the city landscape we are used to. As I was living in one of the nationals parks of the Netherlands I discovered how calming and reassuring closeness to the nature was making me, and the feeling, at least in some small extent, I wanted to translate to the object. So I can hold to a memory also at home. As I have been asked to make candle holders to the restaurant in the middle of the forest, I have started with the research of materials, colours, structures to get the grip of what it might be. The porcelain came along, as the Michelin Star brings certain frame of a good quality and elegance. With the experiments I have started developing the new technique of using porcelain to obtain a special, very textural effect which all of the sudden started remaining the bark of the tree and fern leaves. With adopted tools and experiments through making I have developed a process which brings forest to home, with the translucent effects as the light is coming through the leaves and grasses of the The project relies on the natural shapes and translucency of seashells, which are joined using a technique inspired by traditional stained glass to create dense, textured forms. Each piece is crafted from materials collected in a specific location in the Dutch region of Zeeland, with the shells' unique color palette embodying the raw character of that coastal landscape. At their core, these objects are more than just an aesthetic record of the shoreline—they serve as a way of archiving the memory of a place, capturing a distinct moment and geographical trace in a lasting material form. The project is equally a record of time: both the hours spent on quiet, meditative walks gathering raw materials, and the slow, manual process of building each structure. The work taps into a universal, intuitive impulse—the act of bringing home a piece of driftwood, a smooth pebble, or a few shells from a journey. Would they look at themselves with admiration? The mirror lens around the plant appropriates the image of the surroundings and makes the plants observe their reflection in a mirror. Narcissus represents nature as delicate and requiring protection, but also as selfish and egotistic. I have been interested in preserving the knowledge of so called dying crafts. I have proposed work in cooperation with several highly-qualified craftsmen in order to continue to transmit the knowledge and to create a series of objects. Narcissus was one of the outcomes of the collaborations. Glassblowers manually&nbsp;produced the glass vases in a wooden mold and gave color using a traditional colouring method. The collar surrounding the plant is made using metal spinning and is later burnished and protected against tarnish. Narcissus is an effect of the scholarship Młoda Polska (Young Poland) which I got in the 2013 year from&nbsp;Ministry of Culture and Heritage in Poland. <img width="900" height="600" width_o="900" discarded leather leftovers. By embracing the irregular shapes of these scraps, typically considered waste, each Medina tapestry develops a unique, non-repetitive pattern. The inherent imperfections of the leather are celebrated, creating an apparently uniform yet ultimately singular effect, free from repetition. Each individual tapestry created using this method is also known as a Medina. The Medina process transforms discarded leather scraps and industrial leftovers into unique, pixelated tapestries through a meticulous sequence of cutting and gluing. It begins with the careful selection and organization of leather scraps, salvaged from various sources; large or unsuitable pieces are trimmed to manageable sizes. These prepared leather pieces are then glued onto a textile backing, creating a base layer that establishes the overall texture and color palette of the tapestry. Once the initial layer is adhered, the entire sheet is precisely cut into strips, a critical step in achieving the signature pixelated effect. These strips are then reorganized and glued onto a new backing surface, allowing for the creation of a deliberate, pixel-like pattern where the individual leather pieces act as the 'pixels' of the image. The completed tapestry is then refined, with edges trimmed and any necessary adjustments made to ensure a clean and cohesive final product; the focus remains on showcasing the unique textures and 2023 10:24:37 +0000 studiomazur https://studiomazur.eu/Baranow-2027 Baranów 2027︎︎︎back Over four months, using design research methodologies, I explored loss and belonging and how it's both captured and manifested in a landscape. The project also aims to stimulate democratic participation and renew relationships to the places we inhabit, but too often take for granted. The project, “Baranów 2027”, became a comment on the design itself rather than a solution-seeking assessment. It is about the role of the designer in a community faced with eviction. What can design offer a community that for the last five years has been suspended in limbo due the proposed development of a new mega-airport? What can design do to improve the situation of these people? Very little, it turns out. Each design proposal, when consulted with a local community leader, was rejected. The reasons were many, but at the core was a rejection of trying to give form to, or proposing a solution to a problem that is out of the hands of both designer and residents. This, we believe, reflects the wider trend of design to try and solve huge, complex problems like the climate catastrophe. We need these moments of doubt to stop and assess what is feasible and who we need to work with before we try and “fix” it. The initial idea was to explore how a landscape could be represented through its materials and how these materials contribute to a place's identity. The project focuses on developing a transferable working method, using Zeeland as a case study. Creating new materials serves as a medium to understand the environment and its geo-situation. The project situates the making within the context of resources and their influence on our understanding of place, specifically the seascape. By collecting and processing materials, I began building a library of Zeeland's identity. This process also fostered an understanding of the landscape from a design research perspective. The following samples are created from materials found in Zeeland, including oyster shells, seaweed, sand, ropes, fishing nets, bottles, cans, plastic trash, crab shells, driftwood, bricks, and rust. Material. ︎︎︎back Wool Carpathians is a series of materials created from wool sourced in Upper Silesia. This project emerged from the "Wool Design, Carpathians" workshop series, an initiative of the Cieszyn Castle, a Silesian cultural institution. These workshops explore the region's rich tradition of wool production. This material offers a solution for wool that is currently considered unusable. The wool's non-standard properties are a consequence of sheep breeding practices common during the Communist period in the Eastern Bloc, resulting in its widespread disposal by burning, even locally. To process this non-standardised wool, I focused on techniques that utilise its inherent properties and turn its imperfections into advantages. The resulting material is flexible, can be cut and stitched, and transmits light. The natural defects create unique patterns within the material. By adding other ingredients like goat hair, glitter, or fenugreek, I've demonstrated the material's versatility.
